A round of applause for Jessica Dejesus, who is the 1st graduate of the Red Knight Learning Academy Evening Program at Reading High School. The program is designed for non-traditional, over-age or under-credited students between 17 and 19 who want to earn their RHS diploma. In Red Knight Learning Academy Evening Program, students work at their own pace with assistance and support from RHS teachers, a social worker and a school counselor. Students can finish their credits in three weeks or three months. In addition to working in the classroom, students can study coursework at home. Once students complete their required credits, they are recognized as a RHS graduate and can receive their diploma. They are also welcome to participate in the full RHS graduation ceremony in June. Classes are held from 1 p.m. to 6:25 p.m. Monday-Friday at RHS, and lunch is offered. Jessica explained she slacked off in school and basically gave up after the death of her father and brother. She needed 1 history credit to graduate, and thanks to Red Knight Learning Academy Evening Program, she completed it in three weeks. She was motivated to be an example for her classmates and her newborn daughter, Nayeli. “I had a goal, and I got it done,” Jessica says. “It’s a great feeling.” Learn more about Red Knight Learning Academy Evening Program: http://bit.ly/1kSEbkF (or watch the video below).
